15 Years of Staying True
City Barbeque is celebrating its 15th year of operation from January 12th through the 25th. The hand-crafted barbeque chain is recognizing this mile marker with a celebration that is true to the company’s roots of competition quality and backyard hospitality.
Since opening their doors in December, 1999 City Barbeque has grown to 25 locations across four states with continuous growth averaging roughly four locations per year over the past few years. City Barbeque has been a real bright spot for their employees too, with starting pay well above the average for comparable establishments, offering a scholarship program for their employees, 70 percent promotion from within, and the opportunity to advance as new restaurants are opened.
In their 15 years City Barbeque has received many awards and accolades. In 2014 alone they received 17 different “best of” awards including national recognition with Men’s Journal naming them one of the best BBQ joints in America and receiving the National Turkey Federation award for their local Cooper Farms Turkey.
“We started in a garage, like so many businesses you read about, and I never would have imagined the reception we received from our communities,” says founder and president Rick Malir. “The secret, I think, is our consistent attention to serving delicious food. We are proud to serve every guest that comes in our door. Our teams are devoted craftspeople who really care about the food, and the communities they live and work in.”
This recipe is woven through the anniversary celebration. Guests can purchase $5 beverage tumblers, unlocking free refills through March 31; 100% of tumbler sales will go to the Resurrecting Lives Foundation, an organization advocating for returning heroes and their families by collaborating with civilian institutions to provide health care, education, and employment—specifically for those veterans with traumatic brain injury.
